The story “Black
Aeroplane” has only a few characters. The Pilot/Narrator is the
central character, while the mysterious pilot of the black aeroplane and
the woman in the control centre play important supporting roles.
1. The Pilot / Narrator — पायलट / कथावाचक
English
The pilot is the
narrator and the central character of the story. He is flying his old Dakota
aeroplane from Paris to England. He is an experienced enough pilot to
understand the risks of flying, but his strong desire to reach home makes him
take a dangerous decision.
He is home-loving and
eager to meet his family. His thoughts about having breakfast at home show
how much he is looking forward to returning. However, his decision to fly into
the storm also shows that he can be adventurous and willing to take risks.
When his compass, radio, and
other instruments stop working, he becomes frightened and helpless. He
realizes that he is lost and that his fuel is running low. Despite his fear, he
remains alert and follows the mysterious black aeroplane when it appears.
The pilot is also trusting.
In a moment of extreme danger, he follows the unknown aircraft because he has
no other way to find his direction. After landing safely, he is grateful
to the mysterious pilot and wants to thank him.
At the end, he becomes confused
and curious when the control-centre officer tells him that there was no
other aeroplane in the sky. His unanswered questions make him—and the
reader—wonder about the true identity of the mysterious pilot.

पायलट कहानी का कथावाचक और मुख्य पात्र है। वह अपने पुराने डकोटा हवाई जहाज़ से पेरिस से इंग्लैंड जा रहा होता है। वह उड़ान के खतरों को समझने वाला पायलट है, लेकिन घर पहुँचने की तीव्र इच्छा के कारण वह एक जोखिम भरा निर्णय लेता है।
वह परिवार से प्रेम करने वाला और घर पहुँचने के लिए उत्सुक व्यक्ति है। घर पहुँचकर परिवार के साथ नाश्ता करने के उसके विचार बताते हैं कि वह अपने घर लौटने के लिए कितना उत्साहित है। दूसरी ओर, तूफान के बीच उड़ने का उसका निर्णय उसके साहसी और जोखिम उठाने वाले स्वभाव को भी दर्शाता है।
जब उसका कम्पास, रेडियो और दूसरे उपकरण काम करना बंद कर देते हैं, तो वह डर और असहायता महसूस करता है। उसे पता चलता है कि वह रास्ता भटक चुका है और उसके हवाई जहाज़ में ईंधन भी कम बचा है। डर के बावजूद वह सतर्क रहता है और रहस्यमय काले हवाई जहाज़ के दिखाई देने पर उसका पीछा करता है।
पायलट विश्वास करने वाला भी है। अत्यंत कठिन परिस्थिति में वह अज्ञात हवाई जहाज़ का अनुसरण करता है, क्योंकि उसके पास दिशा जानने का कोई दूसरा साधन नहीं होता। सुरक्षित उतरने के बाद वह उस रहस्यमय पायलट के प्रति आभारी होता है और उसे धन्यवाद देना चाहता है।
कहानी के अंत में जब नियंत्रण कक्ष की महिला बताती है कि आकाश में कोई दूसरा हवाई जहाज़ था ही नहीं, तो पायलट हैरान और जिज्ञासु हो जाता है। रहस्यमय पायलट की पहचान का प्रश्न अनुत्तरित रह जाता है।
2. The Mysterious Pilot of
the Black Aeroplane — रहस्यमय काले हवाई जहाज़ का पायलट

The mysterious pilot
is the most puzzling character in the story. He appears suddenly in the middle
of a dangerous storm when the narrator has lost his way and his instruments
have stopped working.
The pilot does not speak to
the narrator. Instead, he signals him to follow. He then guides the
narrator safely through the storm towards the airport.
His actions make him appear helpful,
calm, and courageous. He seems to know the way through the storm even when
the narrator cannot find his own direction.
However, his identity
remains a mystery. When the narrator later asks about him, the control centre
reports that no other aeroplane was flying that night. Therefore, the
mysterious pilot remains an unexplained figure at the heart of the story.

रहस्यमय पायलट कहानी का सबसे रहस्यमय पात्र है। वह उस समय अचानक दिखाई देता है जब कथावाचक भयंकर तूफान में रास्ता भटक चुका होता है और उसके उड़ान उपकरण काम करना बंद कर चुके होते हैं।
यह पायलट कथावाचक से कोई बात नहीं करता। वह केवल उसे अपने पीछे आने का संकेत देता है। इसके बाद वह कथावाचक को तूफान से सुरक्षित बाहर निकालकर हवाई अड्डे की ओर ले जाता है।
उसके कार्यों से वह सहायक, शांत और साहसी दिखाई देता है। जब कथावाचक स्वयं रास्ता नहीं खोज पाता, तब रहस्यमय पायलट को तूफान के बीच सही रास्ते का ज्ञान होता है।
लेकिन उसकी पहचान एक रहस्य बनी रहती है। बाद में जब कथावाचक उसके बारे में पूछता है, तो नियंत्रण कक्ष से पता चलता है कि उस रात कोई दूसरा हवाई जहाज़ उड़ ही नहीं रहा था। इसलिए यह रहस्यमय पायलट कहानी का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण अनसुलझा पात्र बना रहता है।
3. The Woman at the Control
Centre — नियंत्रण कक्ष की महिला

The woman at the control
centre has a small but important role in the story. After landing safely,
the narrator contacts her and asks about the other aeroplane.
She calmly tells him that there
was no other aeroplane in the sky and that his Dakota was the only aircraft
she had seen.
Her statement creates the
story's final mystery. She provides the information that makes the narrator
question what he experienced during the storm.

नियंत्रण कक्ष की महिला की कहानी में भूमिका छोटी है, लेकिन बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। सुरक्षित रूप से उतरने के बाद कथावाचक उससे दूसरे हवाई जहाज़ के बारे में पूछता है।
