What is the risk? Why does the narrator take it?

The risk is flying directly into the dark storm clouds instead of changing his
route. The narrator knows that the storm may be dangerous, but he wants to

take the risk.

When the narrator enters the storm, everything becomes dark. He cannot see
anything outside the aeroplane. The rain hits the windows and lightning flashes
around him. His compass, radio and other instruments stop working properly. He
becomes frightened because he does not know his direction and is also running
low on fuel. He feels completely helpless until he sees the mysterious black
aeroplane.
