The narrator was flying his
old Dakota aeroplane from Paris to England. He was happy because he was going
home and was looking forward to having breakfast with his family. During the
flight, he noticed a huge mass of dark storm clouds ahead of him. Although he
knew that the storm could be dangerous, he decided to fly into it rather than
change his route.
As soon as he entered the
storm, the situation became frightening. The sky became completely dark, and he
could not see anything outside the aeroplane. Rain struck the windows and
lightning flashed around him. Soon, his compass and other instruments stopped
working. His radio also failed, so he could not contact the control centre.
The narrator became
frightened because he did not know which direction to take and his fuel was
running low. At this critical moment, he suddenly saw a mysterious black
aeroplane. Its pilot signalled him to follow. The narrator trusted him and
followed the aircraft through the storm.
Eventually, the black
aeroplane guided him safely out of the storm. He saw the lights of an airport
below and landed safely. However, after landing, he discovered that the control
centre had no record of another aircraft. This made the entire experience mysterious
and unexplained.
