“Black Aeroplane” is a short and mysterious story by Frederick Forsyth, included in the Class 10 English textbook First Flight under the chapter “Two Stories about Flying.”

The story is about a young pilot who is flying his old Dakota aeroplane from Paris to England. He is excited to reach home and have breakfast with his family. However, while flying at night, he suddenly sees dark storm clouds ahead of him. Although he knows that flying into the storm may be dangerous, he decides to continue his journey.

Inside the storm, his instruments stop working properly, and he becomes lost. At this difficult moment, he sees a mysterious black aeroplane. The unknown pilot signals him to follow and guides him safely out of the storm. But when the narrator reaches the airport, he discovers that the control tower has no record of any other aeroplane in the sky.

The story combines adventure, suspense, mystery, and the supernatural. The unexplained appearance of the black aeroplane leaves the reader wondering who the mysterious pilot was and how he helped the narrator.
